Battle Hymn of the Republic

Welcome to TechInstructorLabs.com. The materials on this site are for educational purposes and are FREE. However, donations and sponsors are welcome. Please view our privacy page and our disclaimer pager first. This site contains many different forms of content geared to those of us who want to know more but are intimidated by the perceived complexity of Windows® XP, Windows® Vista, computers or technology in general (remember the blinking clock on the VCR and how you tried to read the manual). Don’t misunderstand, these devices ARE complex and technical by their very nature. However, think of it this way, this site will be for those who ask for the time and are NOT interested in how to build a clock. Computers should be useful, productive, mind expanding and of course, fun. And believe it or not, Windows® has done this and more. You will not find a glossary of terms on this site. Some key words mentioned herein are linked to the wikipedia.org website. Just click on the highlighted word to get a further explaination. To start, we will cover Windows® security, internet security, basic Windows® preventive maintenance and my favorite applications. As we grow, we will also including basic computer hardware, peripheral devices (things like printers and usb devices) and other consumer related technologies. We hope to have video presentations for many of these topics available to view online.
We are a niche web site. I have looked long and hard at many informational web sites concerning Windows® and their users. Many are geared toward either the very new user or to those hard core “power” users. Those in between try to fill the void. That’s the area for us. So what will make our site different? The content. Our content is multimedia. We just don’t explain how to do something. For example, we won’t just tell how to secure your Windows® computer, or cover basic Internet security or how to use productivity software. We show you how, with many 10 minute or less videos, printable documents (pdf format), audio recordings (MP3) and screen shots with text. There are active links on many of our pages. These embedded links will be topic specific to the content on that selected page. What this means, for example, is if you are viewing a page concerning how to setup an antivirus software program, we not only outline the procedure, or show you screen captures , but there will be a link to a video showing you how this is done. Currently our videos are FLASH® based only. Don’t know what that is? Well, not to worry. The player comes with Windows® and will automatically prompt you for an update if it is necessary . We hope to have in the future, our videos in different formats for download to your computer or portable devices at a later date.
We don’t want your eyes to glaze over, so we approach the subjects covered from the view of a novice with some experience to the intermediate user who wants to see some of the parts under the hood. We will try to avoid “geek speak”. Of course we hope that the viewer, listener, reader, of our content has a basic understanding of Windows®. If not, then use our Comment tab at the top of this page and send us a request. Maybe we will do a video on some of those functions as well.
Did I mention that all of this is FREE. However, we do ask for donations. We are NOT a charitable organization and your donations are NOT tax deductible. But don’t let that stop you. We welcome and will review any commercial sponsorship submitted to us. We hope to add other technical instructional media on many other subjects related to consumer technology ( MP3 portable audio players, HDTV, home networking, digital cameras, VOIP -think telephone over internet, etc.) as well. Remember, we are a work in progress. Thanks for visiting us. We wish to thank Nittany Media, for their support.
